JUDAS

JUDAS speelt zich af in het afgelegen dorpje in de Kalahari woestijn in Zuid Afrika. Hier wonen enkele honderden Angolese veteranen die tijdens de Koude Oorlog aan de kant van Zuid Afrika vochten tegen de communistische MPLA in Angola. Toen de communisten deze strijd wonnen heeft het bataljon onderdak gekregen in een verlaten dorpje in Zuid-Afrika. Ze werden tijdens de apartheid ingezet als ordetroepen in de townships en werden gevreesd. Naar het schijnt zaten deze mannen voortdurend aan de verkeerde kant van de geschiedenis. Maar wat is (historisch) goed en wat is fout? In hoeverre waren deze mannen daders, en in hoeverre toch ook slachtoffer.

JUDAS takes place in a remote village in the South African Kalahari Desert. In this village live several hundred Angolan veterans who joined South Africa in her fight against the Angolan communist MPLA during the Cold War. When the communists won the battle the battalion was housed in this abandoned South African village, and during apartheid they were deployed in the townships as highly feared order troops. It seems these men were constantly on the wrong side of history. But what is (historically) wrong or right? And to what extent were they perpetrators and to what extent also victims?
